Fare Sniper

Is the price I see the price I pay?

Bags, seat and the bus to the airport are counted before anything is ranked, so a cheap fare with expensive extras never wins. The extras are estimates you can correct in Settings.

Ranking on the headline fare rewards the airline that hides the most in extras. So nothing is ranked on the fare. Everything is ranked on what the trip will actually cost you.

What goes into the figure

  • The fare itself, for the passengers and cabin you set.
  • A cabin bag or checked bag estimate for that carrier, from the fee table in the config. Carriers that include a bag are not charged for one.
  • A seat selection estimate, where that carrier charges for it.
  • Ground transport to and from an airport that is not your home one. Flying from Kaunas when you live in Vilnius is cheaper, but it is not free.

What is an estimate and what is not

The fare is real - it came from a live search. The ancillaries are estimates from a fee table, because airlines do not publish them in a searchable form. They are deliberately conservative and you can correct any of them in Settings. If you never check a bag, set the bag estimate to zero and the ranking changes with it.

One more thing in the ranking

A trip made of several separate bookings is charged a complexity penalty of about 40 euro per extra booking when we rank, and only when we rank. The trip is still displayed at its real price. This exists because a four-ticket self-transfer at 700 euro is not actually a better trip than one through-fare at 710 euro, and ranking on price alone said it was.

Every figure in this product is in euro. There is never a mixed currency in one view.
